Wednesday: The Definition of Beauty

What is Beauty?

Beauty is a glimpse. When we behold something beautiful, we get a glimpse of something higher and better, something more significant than our disappointing life.

It may be a beautiful piece of music, or a piece of art. We may find beauty in a charitable act, a tender moment between sisters, or a sporting event. But when we see something beautiful, we know that something beyond us is possible. Beauty points us toward glory.

A. What do we find beautiful? and Why do we love it?


1) Jason Mcllwayne.
The kid who had been broken his entire life, for a moment was perfect. The kid who had been the target of cruel jokes, was carried off the court by his teammates.

We long for that, we long for the day when our infirmities are more than healed, when they are glorified.

2) Iraqi Soldier surprising his son at school.
We long for that ultimate homecoming. When all fears are gone, and when every tear has been wiped from our eyes. We long for that hug, and to see it is beautiful.

3) Slumdog Millionaire
He pursued his love for years, through slums, through exploitation, through betrayal and prostitution. Nothing could diminish his love for her, and finally he kissed her scars and they danced.

That is the perfect picture or our savior. He pursues us through the slums of sin, through betrayal and exploitation, and when he finally unites with us, he kisses our scars. At the marriage supper of the lamb, we will dance
